The Hen That Wasn't

This is Vader-Vulcan,
my supposed Brahma Hen.
A couple of weeks ago, Big E mentioned one of the hens making loud
weird noises.
I suggested perhaps she was doing the egg laying song
(known to be much louder than typical hen clucking).
Days after that,
my mom tells me that one of the hens is making weird noises
that sound almost like a rooster.
I suggested it might be a rooster,
and my mom assured me that it wasn't.
Then I went down the barn.
For now, the rooster is staying.
He hasn't shown any mean tendencies,
and so far my parents haven't complained about the crowing.
Apparently, he's not a morning rooster.
I'm hoping that he helps with protecting the flock.

A Little Fresh Air

This past Sunday was gorgeous here.
Sun was shining
and the temps were in the 70's.
I took the new pullets over to spend some time outside
since they'll be moving outside once we get the coop upgraded.
Of course, I end up discovering that my favorite new pullet
is actually a rooster.
And since no roosters are allowed at the Wannabe Farm
(because the neighbor's Roo is loud enough without one in the backyard)
He needs to find a home.
Luckily, I found him one and also found another pullet to replace him- same breed and everything.
Hopefully I won't have to worry about raising new chicks for a while.

Pullet?

Here is a shot of Nugget (on the left) and Zombie (on the right) the new Golden Laced Wyandottes.

I'm a little concerned that maybe Nugget isn't going to be laying any eggs,
but rather fertilizing them.
That is, I'm thinking she's a he.
That won't be good.
We don't want any Roosters here at the Wannabe Farm
and my young son is already worked up over the possibility that Nugget might need a new home.
I'm hoping maybe Nugget is just a little older or a little more "developed" that her buddy Zombie.
Time will tell.
